Kaisei Opti (解星オプティ) is a modern take to the traditional calligraphy style Japanese font. It is one of the four fonts from the Kaisei Project where it took reference from the calligraphy styled fonts that were the norm in the past, and make it and digitalise it with the modern interpretation. You can see it retained the fluidity and the nature of the calligraphy strokes, with a more streamlined, cleaned up and pop-ish stroke design. The key style of the Kaisei Opti font is the right stroke end is represented with a dot, and they are essential to compensate for the instability caused by departing from traditional forms.
To be honest, this font feels so familiar, I just feel like I have seen this font on many Japanese food and beverage packaging designs. Indeed the font style is eye-catchy, and perhaps cute as well due to the presence of the rounded dots. Kaisei Opti comes with three weights – Regular, Medium and Bold. Out of the four variations, Kaisei Opti is the simplest and the cleanest (hence the name “Opti” which I think it stands for optimised). Besides that it supports kanji character up to Adobe-Japan 1-3, which is comparable to JIS Level 2 character set.
